Hey Guys,

I have a 29g setup right now,
2x 24" t5HO ballast.
30-60g heater.
1 powerhead. I think it's a maxi-jet 800
2 HOB filters ( no filter media, a sponge in one, and the other is holding a mangrove plant.

2 clownfish,
1 yellowtail damsel,

a small colony of zooanthids,
a few green mushrooms,

a green emerald crab
a mix of about 10-15 snails.

15 lbs of LR on top of 10 lbs of Dead coral rock & base rock

I'm currently trying to setup a sump for this tank, as i have recently bought a protein skimmer (125 coralife skimmer [bit of overkill i know]). The sump was a 15 gallon tank. I read a bunch of DIY sump stuff online and created
3 sections with a bubble trap in between the first two.
the firs section for the intake/ skimmer is 8" x12"x8" the second section which i plan to put a 5" sand bed and some rock rubble/cheato is 6"x12"x8". and the last section to house the return pump is 8"x12"x8".
I've silicone sealed the ballasts in now and tested it that it holds water. :)

The issues I'm running into currently is my tank has been running for about 1.5 years now. and was not predriller. So I've been reading a bunch of DIY forums on PVC overflows and decided to make one of these. i used 3/4" PVC and have most of it cemented now, have been playing around with lengths of the piping the last few days to see what a difference different sizes for the U tubes make. All the diagrams and DIY posts i've seen generally have the u tube that goes in the tank the same size as the one out of the tank, but from the tests I've made it seems like you get a better flow making the utube outside the tank lower/longer than the one inside the tank. I'm wondering if this might have issues managing microbubbles and make me lose my siphon if a power outage occurs. Below is an ascii repesentation I made of the overflow i am attempting to create.

I think i may have started an account on here a while ago and never posted anything... i forgot the account if i did.

forgot to mention I just picked up a 140g recently. Still trying to decide whether to make this into a master sump or a tank? it's not in the best shape esthetically wise, scratches all around the glass from rocks.
